Mikey became a part of our family this past weekend, and he has been absolutely amazing. He is a bundle of energy, but is already adapting to our day-to-day routine. He has made a new best friend in his cousin Floyd the pit bull, and has been giving his “big” sister the space she needs to get to know him. We have discovered that he loves to go for runs, lie in the sun, and play with anything that has peanut butter on it.
It was a wonderful experience to adopt from the SF SPCA and we are amazed at everything you do for the animals you care for. Please continue to keep doing what you are doing and thank you so much for bringing Mikey into our lives. We love him!
Sparky! “I just turned two years old, so I still have a lot of youthful energy – I love to fetch toy mice! Bird watching and sunbathing are also two of my hobbies. Although I’m energetic I can also be a bit bashful, so I’m looking for a quieter home. Do you know anyone who might be a good match for me?” http://tinyurl.com/l9deqxd
When my nana (grandma) first adopted Misty almost 5 years ago I was at school; once school was over I was getting in the car to go home and my auntie was holding a box. I asked “What’s in the box?” and she said, “A kitten”. I was so happy, even though I really wanted a dog (and still do — I like both), I couldn’t believe it. Misty was just 8 months old and very tiny. When we got home, we changed her name to Midnight.
Now she’s 4 years old — she will be 5 in August — and she is one of the smartest cats I know and love. When a door is closed in the house she will jump up on the door and push it open and sometimes she’ll go behind the door and close it. She loves to play with strings and ribbons. She also likes to sleep. But most of all she LOVES to eat and won’t stop meowing until she gets her food. She’s a great cat and I’m thinking about getting another one or maybe getting a dog for the first time And I want to thank the SF SPCA and their staff, volunteers, and employees, for all the work they do to save an animal’s life and get them into happy forever homes.
It was that time of year: Burning Man. When everyone asks me to take care of their pets while they scamper in the desert. Six years ago I realized, while feeding another kitty, that there was an empty hole in my life that needed to be filled.
After a discussion, my husband Brian & I went down to the SF SPCA. I have always adored tabbies, & I held a listless but beautiful kitten & I knew as they say. I actually cried on the way out the door. Although Mia — now Mia Mermaid — had visible ribs (partly due to the stress of being in a shelter) she rebounded amazingly fast. And turned into a chow hound.
She is a character… not the demure & sickly kitty I met. She is strong, powerful — and full of salt & vinegar! The love I have for her is so powerful, it defies definition. She opened my eyes to the plight of all cats. We have 2 cats now, & live in our own peaceful kingdom. Brian & I always say we never had a home… until Mia Mermaid came into our life.
In Love with Fiona
We just adopted “Fiona” a chihuahua mix on April 17th. Our family made the decision to adopt a dog several months ago and we had visited the SPCA previously but didn’t find the right match for our family. You always hear the stories of people who tell you “you will just know” when you meet the right dog. I now know what this experience is. From the moment we met Fiona, it was love at first sight. My son is 12 and she bonded with him instantly. The first night home with us, she followed him where ever he went. When it was time for bed, she jumped right into bed with my son and slept all night with him.
We also discovered that she knows the word “paw” and that she is house broken. She also enjoys walks in our neighborhood.
Fiona is the sweetest, most loveable dog. I believe that she is the perfect match for our family and I am grateful that we waited to find her. She has brought joy into our household that was so needed. We are over the moon in love with her!
